DANCE STEPS
Dancing is the most common
entertaining, relaxing and creative activity that fascinates all ages. It is the easiest

rotating, bending, stretching, jumping or any physical actions in different dynamics.
Different culture has different dances. Western influenced dances vary from jive, reggae,

cha This is a dance originated in Cuba,
the most accepted social dance with the beats 1-2-3-4 & one.. with steps spelt as cha
cha cha. It is a pair dance to relax, be merry and carefree. Can dance with any partner,
even your Mom or sister. It is in a group of three steps taken in any direction during
which the second step is closed or partially closed to the first step. The cha cha cha
music is mainly percussion with basic figure movements and no body contacts with easy
relaxed hold of partner & turn the way you want with the right steps. Waltz Since ages, Waltz is a romantic dance
with gentle, lilting, melodic tunes that capture souls of liberated generations. Favorite
all over the world, it first began as old folk dance of Austria and southern Germany.
Confidence is the key of success of this dance and knowing this dance is a great social
asset. Waltz has different forms - Modern, Traditional, Jazz, Viennese & classic
danced in repetitive rhythm with slow tempo. The Tango Originated in slums and back street
of Argentina was considered immodest for the dance halls. In 1900s, it became fashionable
in Europe and introduced in US around 1912 with 2/4 or 3/4 time. It requires space,
correct posture and hold and elusive cat like movements during each walk. The Quickstep The most popular Dance step that
takes anybody on the floor on and often during social ballroom dancing. It is a happy,
upbeat dance evolved from the One step and Boston in America. Everyone dances the same
sequence and turn to those using normal steps. Bright music, tricky steps, a light and
happy mood-that is Quickstep. Jitterbug The most popular dance in late 1930s
& 1940s in US. Originated from Black Bottom and Lindy Hop, was considered wild and
uninhibited with swing music but soon became popular. The hit number of George Michael
"Jitterbug" You put the boom boom into my heart has the Jittery dance rhythms. Tap Dance When you talk of Tap Dance, pop comes
the name on the lips - Fred Astaire & Gene Kelly. You can watch them on the TNT
regularly with their tap dance on the floor, an American theatrical dance with percussive
footwork that marks precise rhythms and patterns on floor. It has descriptive steps like
brush, flap, shuffle, fall, change, roll. The Jig A jig is lively fold dance with two
soloist performers in rapid, intricate, hopping steps to music in 6/8 time with a slip jig
9/8 time beat. The Irish fold tradition jigs were popular in Scotland and England in 1500s
& 1600s as Stage dance. Louis XIV adopted the Jig dance in its courts. The easiest
dance to hop with music and no basic steps to learn. Cake Walk It is a dance for couples strutting
around a square. Named for cake won for the most incentive dancers, it originated in US in
1840s among slaves. It reached popularity as Ballroom craze with Cakewalk on ragtime
music. Rag Time Popular during World War I, Ragtime
is a dance usually 2/4 times beat characterized by melodies over a regularly accented
Bass. Its roots lie in cakewalk, banjo playing and black folk music. It has Piano rolls
and printed music by professional performer. The Fox Trot This is an American couple dance
whose variant include one step and the fast, jazzy, quickstep. Earlier it had two steps
but led to Ball Room Fox trot with walking steps, side steps and quarter turns.
