GUARDIANS OF ANGELS - PEACE IS AT YOUR DOORSTEP!

Imagine! Imagine a world without love? What do kids need from Parents? Love, protection, motivation, encouragement, inspiration, support but above all, morality, time and values to nurture their childhood, their potentialities and bestow them better humanitarian potency. In the rat race of a new age life, parents stumble the blocks of kids in their own critical situations, beliefs, emotional outbursts or just about any ‘verge off’ political, communal tiff, natural or man made catastrophe, traumatic situations faced out in the world. The kids are Watching, Beware! It is during these times when the Guardians of little Angels need to brush off their ignorance and come out of their negative influence. As said by Daniel Goleman in his book ‘Emotional Intelligence’, humans have degenerated ‘Emotional literacy’ across racial and class boundaries and the result of this has been an increase in cynicism, social pathology, violence and suicide. There has been considerable lack of emotional skills found in present generation who fail to impart skills as sympathy, responsibility, tolerance, impulsive attitudinal behavior, caring, love, understanding and instill moral values in kids. Childhood is a special window for shaping Emotional habits in kids when they need to recognize the values of living with love, care, share and understanding characteristics. As we face out to stop, think and view our new generation bouncing up at a pace amidst natural and man-made disaster, its time to Think, Act and Perform our duties to nurture the minds and create a better world and future for them. Children adopt the values we demonstrate to them. Adults need to create their own ‘Value List’ for a start and check out ourselves where we stand! Its too easy to preach rather than practice and this is when we realize our own ‘flaws’, our negative points, our levels of declining attitudinal traits, our waning Emotional as well as Intelligence quotient. This is where one need to draw the line and refrain from viewing violence on television screen or scratch off reading and viewing stuff in newspapers. Violence can desensitize yourself as well as kids from violent acts, decrease sensitivity towards the victims of fate, increase anxiety and fear, make a person aggressive, intolerant, rude, arise anger and fill the heart with morose feelings and hate dodging back from cooperative approach to chip away and stand at the crossroads of humanitarian principles.  The safety and civility of our society is in our own hands and it’s we who need to nurture our principles of living, after all. MANAGE EMOTIONAL TRAUMA: Bad things happen to good as well as bad people. God has his own way. There is no denial to the truth to what happens but leave aside the grudges and grumbles to face the consequences in a more effective manner. Don’t let those emotions break you down but relax to be composed. Situations aren’t in our hands sometimes and let not hate flicker the heart with malice thoughts. Hate begets hate and so, manage the emotional outbursts and make the kids too follow the path of forgiving. Turn them to be creative doing some activity of their choice diverting their minds and refraining them from participating in your emotional conflicts.

BEHAVIOUR PATTERNS: What we need as guardians of Angels is to possess behavior patterns in ourselves with certain norms of ‘Acceptable behavior’.  We are responsible citizens to our society and so do our kids need to follow and stick to the rule. Blaming a Politician, community or the event is not the root cause to be discussed. Every person is watched! God punishes in his own way, he who offends. So, its time we learn and teach to acknowledge differences, feelings of others and ours too. Each person has his own way of thinking. Why retaliate to situations? In doing so, we harm mankind.

THINK OPTIMISTIC: Challenging a strife brings in no good results. Think positive; be optimistic that this too shall pass away. Motivate kids and make them optimistic. Encourage patience, build hopes, and make them zealous to carry on their responsibility in a routine way. Let them not involve into fiddled talks of violence all through the day. This will only fill their minds with hate and violence.

CONTROL IMPULSE ATTITUDE: Every human mind is impulsive. Reactions are prompt surfacing up to vent out the anxiousness, anger, intolerance and hate feelings. Self-regulation pays off. If an adult has mood swings, so will the kids watch to follow his own instincts. Provide opportunities for self and kids to shrug off the mood swings and indulge in creative pursuits.

DEVELOP LISTENING & COMMUNICATION SKILLS: When in times of crisis, people often become too aggressive. Mind is on ‘high volts’ that triggers arrogance and rough, rude attitude. The kids read non-verbal gestures and the face reflects what thoughts run down the veins. Tone of voice, gestures, eye contact, and verbal communication portray the shooting temper traits. Listen and communicate with them. Teach them to overcome stress, problem-solving ways. Let them not be aggressive or fearful. Listen, Talk, diverge in child talks and let kids imitate, be frank and open.

MOTIVATE & INSPIRE: Motive and inspire the kids for an activity to pursue of their choice. Be Creative and choose life! Listen to music, play games, educate, share dreams, show photo albums, communicate and above all, devote time. When we have our own choices, let not the kids strand to face ‘boredom’ but speak to them and keep them occupied. Set Goals and make them select their own too. Be polite, considerate, share your time, talents and possessions. To reach a child’s heart is like entering the doors of heaven.

RESIST TEMPTATIONS: Many parents stand firm to their own choice – choice of a TV show, choice of reading material or choice of an activity. Too much is Enough! The media performs its own task to portray the truth; events and happenings, entertaining or educating, spreading peace or signals of violence! It’s in the hands of the adults to watch your own viewing. The kids are watching too! Let the Television be in the main room and the internet, a common use for the family. Encourage watching Quality programs on television and provide links to safe surf sites if using the Internet. Watch the News but do not harp in the whole day long, Read the news or books, but do not bury yourself all time along! Meet friends but do not ignore the playing kids around and leave them unattended! Monitor the choices and let kids participate in all that you do while at home. Negligence often pays big dividend losses.

INVOLVEMENT: Foster participation in hobbies, music listening, playing games, watching television or freaking out for entertainment or social contacts. Encourage daily Reading hour, Cooking togetherness, religious imparting programs, etc. Sit, talk, listen, debate on interesting topics and exchange ideas of common interest. The kids would love to let you be their guardians if you have close contact with their heart and mind.

NURTURE PARENTAL EQ: Every born individual is not born with EI (Emotional Intelligence) and this can be developed with knowledge workgroup efficiency.  It’s the taming of Emotional Quotient that is required for a sound living – Live and Let Live! Strive to excel and possess the qualities of five D’s – Devotion, Determination, Dedication, Discrimination and Discipline. Be empathetic, kind, caring, compassionate, understanding, enthusiastic, tolerant and loving. This will help the angels follow their dream ‘God’ and walk on the footsteps to be better humans to live with peace.

SELF-AWARENESS: Be Aware of own feelings, the plus and minus characteristic traits. Each sun sign reflects a characteristics of a Leo or Libra or any other, so relax cool and Be Aware, beware! We may think we are perfect but in fact, we need to be ‘Perfect’ sometimes. Meditate, Believe in God and above all, Believe in yourself and the things you can do. Nothing ever would stop you from being Self Aware! Afterall, awareness brings in vision and provides new dimensions in life.

ADHERE TO SITUATIONS – DON’T PANIC: God has his own ways and what he does is right! It’s the people who disobey and forget that each person is born with differences – Differences of Attitudes, religion, communities, and nations. Like Robert Schuller says in ‘Why Bad things happen to good people’, there stands no exceptions for good people and god leave us room to be human. The story of a man named Job reflects the story of a pious man, a perfect person who has faith in god, yet God takes his trials when Satan challenges god and tells him to take away his riches and comfort and then see how good he is. Yet, God rules! Job has faith in him and does not flinch! “Behold, he snatches away and who can hinder him, what are you doing?’ (Job 9:12 – Bible) Job said we like in an unjust world and we cannot expect fairness. There is god but he is free of the limitations of justice and righteousness. God even has a hard time keeping chaos in check and limiting those evils can do. And like our very own Hindu Religion says, Kalki Yug is here, the destruction of evil on earth and god comes riding on a White Horse to do so! So, don’t panic, Adhere to situations and take charge of your Emotional Switchboard. Spread not rumors, await to watch a New Beginning, Maybe!
