Topics on Environment, Our World, Wild Life, Forests, Conservation,
Population Pressures, etc.
What is Environment?
The physical
biological world we live in is environment. The human environment includes
buildings, plant life, climate and the land itself. People are affected by
the environment in which they live.
What are the meteorological factors of environment?
The
meteorological factors of environment are sunlight, rainfall, temperature,
humidity and wind. Sunlight or solar energy warms the oceans and land
which release heat into the air to drive the atmosphere in motion.
Rainfall is the source of terrestrial water such as rivers, lakes, soil
moisture, ground water, etc. Water vapour present in the atmosphere is
called humidity.
What is the difference between climate and weather.
Climate is the term used to
describe the general character of place's weather during the course of a
year. The term weather relates to daily changes in atmospheric conditions.
It occurs in the troposphere.
What is troposphere? Stratosphere?
The region of air close to the
earth and extending upto 10 km high is the troposphere. It contains water
vapour, dust particles, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, clouds, etc. and
has direct relevance to the biosphere.
The region above the troposphere is called stratosphere whose upper part
substantially contains ozone. It extends from 10 to 40 kms. Ozone absorbs
most of the ultraviolet radiations of the sun and protects the earth from
these hazardous radiations.
What is atmosphere?
The blanket of air which
surrounds the earth is called atmosphere. Atmosphere contains 78% of
nitrogen, 21% of oxygen, 0.3% carbon dioxide and 0.07% other gases. The
distinct classes of atmosphere are : Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere,
thermosphere and exosphere
What is the meaning of Socio cultural environment?
Socio-cultural
environment includes various activities of man such as historical, cultural,
economic, political, moral and aesthetic aspects.
What does 'Third world' mean?
In late 1940s, the world was
divided into three. The first one comprised those countries whose
economies were governed mainly by the free market. The second one was used
for those countries whose economies were planned centrally. Third world
remained in use for economically developing countries. More recently, a
fourth world has been added by dividing the old third world into those
countries that have natural resources of high value and those developing
countries that have not.
