Pronouns

 

A pronoun is a word used instead of a noun. Here is classify pronouns in different ways:

Kinds of Pronouns

 

1. Personal Pronouns – I, we, me, us, mine, ours
 

These words are pronouns of first person which refer to the person or persons

 

The words: as, thou, thee, you, yours, are pronouns of Second person which refer to the person or persons

The words: as, he, she him, her, hers, they, them, theirs, are pronouns of third person as they refer to the person or thing.

It is to be noted: When you speak more of more than one person and you are one of the persons spoken of, you should always mention yourself last.
For eg. Bins, Meg and I are going to school (I is the person you – you  mention last)

 

2. Possessive Pronouns – yours, mine, hers, his

 

These Pronouns are used instead of nouns to show possession

 

3. Reflexive Pronoun – itself, ourselves, themselves, yourselves

 

These pronouns refer to the same persons as the subjects to the verbs

4. Emphatic Pronouns – herself, ourselves, themselves, yourselves

 

These pronouns are used with nouns or pronouns for the sake of emphasis.
eg. We ourselves decorated the class. / The hall itself is not very big. / They themselves went to the airport. / The Queen herself visited the concert.

 

5. Demonstrative Pronouns – This, That, These, Those

 

These pronouns are used to point out the object or objects to which they refer.

 

6. Indefinite Pronouns – some, few, many, all, one, none

 

These pronouns refer to a person or things in a general way.

Eg. Some of these books, few escaped, none but fools die, many are kids, few were teens

 

7. Interrogative Pronouns – who? Which? What?

These pronouns always introduce a question. Eg. Who broke the glass? Which is your book? What do you want?

Who – turns whom – Whom did you see?
Whose? Turn whose – Whose is this?

 

8. Relative Pronouns – who, whom, whose, which and that
These pronouns join two sentences and refer back to nouns going before them.

Eg. This is the boy who broke the glass.
